Discotek Renews Retro Anime Culture with its Latest Licenses
If anyone understands our love for retro anime, it’s Discotek. For years, the company has been licensing titles from the 1970s-1990s, and because of it, the trend of these beautiful series is coming back.
At its Otakon panel, Discotek announced its new licensed anime, and these old but gold series will make you fall in love with the retro art style.
- Urusei Yatsura (1981-86): The anime is scheduled for release in 2023 and will contain all 195 episodes in four box sets.
- City Hunter: Multiple specials and films under the anime will be released in early 2023
- City Hunter – Magnum of Love and Fate
- City Hunter: Bay City Wars, City Hunter: Million Dollar Conspiracy
- City Hunter: Secret Service
- City Hunter Special: Good-bye My Sweet Heart
- City Hunter: Death of the Vicious Criminal Ryo Saeba
- Machine Robo: The Running Battlehackers: It will include all 31 episodes and will be out in late 2022. This is the first time that the show will be available with English subtitles.
- Senki Zesshō Symphogear XV: It is the final season of the Symphogear franchise and will be released in early 2023.
- The Princess and the Pilot: It will be released in late 2022 and will only have minor tweaks from the originally released version.
- The Tales of Symphonia OVAs: All 11 episodes will be released that are scattered throughout the franchise.
Some of the other announcements include clarification on the release dates of Project A-ko 3: Cinderella Rhapsody, 2001 Shaman King, and other re-release titles.
‘Project A-ko 3: Cinderella Rhapsody’, season 2 of ‘Cat’s Eye,’ and the 2001 ‘Shaman King’ anime will ship later this year.
Dino Mech Gaiking will be re-released in 2022 with 44 episodes. The Sherlock Hound re-release will also ship within 2022.
Discotek has gone above and beyond with this year’s rescue licenses, and old anime fans can’t be more grateful.
