Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Multiplayer Mode Explained
Flying around in Conton City alone or fending off opponents at Buu’s House alone in Xenoverse 2 can be a rather lonely experience. Perhaps, you want to feel the excitement of going against a non-AI opponent for once to test your fighting skills.
Fortunately, Xenoverse 2 does offer its players some multiplayer features so that you can play with your friends and other players from all over the world.
Through Xenoverse 2’s multiplayer mode, you can battle against other players, talk and explore the Conton City area with them, and complete Parallel Quests and Expert Missions with them. Up to 6 players can team up online through the multiplayer mode.
However, Xenoverse 2 is inherently single-player focused, so the scope of multiplayer mode is quite narrow. Let’s take a look at what features Xenoverse 2 multiplayer does and does not have.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 multiplayer mode explained
Once you finish the Saiyan Saga and defeat Dodoria in the Namek arc, a tutorial window will pop up to explain the multiplayer mode to the player. You can unlock the multiplayer mode by visiting the respective stations of various multiplayer mechanics.
You can engage in PvP in Xenoverse 2. This includes setting up online lobbies and battling 1v1 with other players. Go to the ‘Online Battles’ terminal and create a room to fight other players. However, even though the PvP battles in Xenoverse 2 are competitive, there is no ranking system as such.
You can’t cross-play with other players. This means that as a PC player, you can’t play Xenoverse 2 with friends who have a copy of the game on Playstation or Xbox platforms. You can only co-op with other PC players.
You can play offline multiplayer matches. Say hello to couch gaming again! Just head to Battle Information Station at Time Machine Station and select the Local Battles option under Offline Battles to battle against your friends through local wireless.
However, only two players can battle at once. You can access six stages through Local Battles: World Tournament Stage, Cell Games Arena, West City Ruins, Supreme Kai’s World, Hyperbolic Time Chamber, and Planet Namek.
You can’t complete story mode quests in multiplayer mode. All the sagas in the story mode are single-player only. You need to complete the story mode to access Parallel Quests and other locked features of multiplayer mode, such as Expert Missions.
You can play PvE battles with other players. Some Parallel Quests in Xenoverse 2 are extremely difficult to finish by yourself, so you can lend a helping hand to players of a higher level. Even Expert Missions can be completed through the co-op.
Around 3 players can join Parallel Quests and about 6 players can join Expert Missions. However, make sure you finish the story mode first, so you can unlock the Parallel Quests and Expert Missions.
There is no proper open world in Xenoverse 2. The open world in the game is hub-based, and the only area where you can interact with other players is Conton City. Your friends can’t accompany you beyond this area. You can even chat with other players in this hub.
