Fans Mourn The Passing Away of Legendary Music Composer Shunsuke Kikuchi
Legendary Japanese music composer Shunsuke Kikuchi, who produced the theme music and background score for numerous popular shows, including Dragon Ball and Kamen Rider, has passed away after a prolonged battle with aspiration pneumonia.
Popular among fans, his works won him accolades all over the globe. His demise has shattered fans and left a void in the Japanese music industry.
On April 24, 2021, Shunsuke Kikuchi passed away after a prolonged battle with aspiration pneumonia. He was 89.
His family also held a private funeral amid the coronavirus emergency in Tokyo. Kikuchi had been on a break since 2017 because of several medical complications. Even just before his death, he had undergone intense medical treatment.
Kikuchi was known for composing heavy and dramatic pieces which were well-suited with action-adventure anime, tokusatsu, and violent action films. He pioneered the revival of the “Jidaigeki” or the period drama genre in Japan.
Apart from working in the Dragon Ball and Kamen Rider franchises, Kikuchi also composed the theme song of the popular children’s anime, Doraemon. Titled “Doraemon no Uta,” the song was used for 26 years between 1979 and 2005.

Condolences and tributes continue to pour in from around the world for Kikuchi, who inspired an entire generation of artists and composers.
Christopher Sabat, the voice behind Vegeta in the original English dub, took to Twitter to express his grief.
Kikuchi’s passing away is not only a huge loss for the anime industry but also the entire entertainment world. He was a great human being and was loved by his colleagues and fans.
