French Artist, Jérôme Alquié, is in Charge of Drawing the New Saint Seiya Manga

Jérôme Alquié, a French artist, is in a highly enviable position, working alongside popular mangaka Leiji Matsumoto.

His series had characters from Captain Harlock by Matsumoto, serialized in Akita Shoten’s Manga Cross website. Initially, it began as just a heartfelt tribute to his childhood favorites, Captain Harlock and Saint Seiya. But this nostalgic project led to Jérôme Alquié being noticed and handpicked from among the vast manga space.

The Captain Harlock manga, currently only available in French and Japanese , will soon launch its English translation debut in June and will be available for free on Comic Book Day 2021.

Recently Alquié gave an interview discussing his work and his upcoming big project.

French Artist, Jérôme Alquié, revealed his upcoming big project to be working on Masami Kurumada’s popular series, Saint Seiya.

The original manga of Saint Seiya began publication back in 1986. The manga has influenced many spin-offs and sequels as well as anime adaptations over the years.

Saint Seiya’s latest adaptation came out in July 2019. It was a CG anime remake that premiered on Netflix. Furthermore, a live-action Hollywood movie has also been greenlit.

Alquié’s goal is to trigger people’s nostalgia and make them feel the emotions they once felt when they first watched Saint Seiya. There must surely be a lot of fond childhood memories that are attached to such an old series.

With his talent and the joint effort of the imminent mangaka, the new Saint Seiya manga is sure to bring in not only old, but new fans!

The manga was adapted into an anime television series by Toei Animation that lasted from 1986 to 1989, prior to later being continued in the form of three original video animation series from 2002 to 2008.

The story focuses on five mystical warriors called the Saints who fight wearing sacred sets of armor termed “Cloths”.

The Saints have promised to protect the reincarnation of the Greek goddess Athena in her battle against other Olympian gods who wish to conquer Earth.
