Dropkick on My Devil!!! X’s Funding Rejected by Furano City
This September, Dropkick on My Devil!!! X’s run came to an end. The show has gained a great deal of popularity with the general public. A recent announcement, however, might jeopardize the series’ future.
On Tuesday, the settlement of general accounts associated with the Furusato Nozei (Hometown Tax) system was rejected by the Special Committee for the Examination of Settlement of Accounts in Furano City.
In other words, they refused to hand over the 33 million yen ($236,200) in production funds raised for the third season.
This choice was made in light of the fact that the ninth episode of Dropkick on My Devil!!! X, which is set in Furano City, featured the main character Jashin-chan attempting to pay off her debt by offering to sell her organs.
One of the Council members thought the incident was “socially unacceptable” and “displayed a bad image of Furano.” Another committee member, however, asserted that the incident was merely a story and shouldn’t be interpreted incorrectly.
As a result of a 7-7 tie among all committee members, the chairman made the final decision. The mayor of Furano, Taketoshi Kita, expressed his dissatisfaction with the outcome and referred to it as an interference with free speech.
The Furusato Nozei system, in which urban taxpayers contribute to the rural areas in lieu of a tax deduction, was one of the methods used to crowdfund the third season of Dropkick on My Devil!
This is the first time in 17 years, according to the Furano City Council, that a general account settlement has not been approved. However, the production team intends to launch a fresh crowdsourcing campaign for the OVA episodes and a fourth season.
Inseparable to the Dropkick on My Devil! series is black humor. Even though the Furano City Council’s choice is undoubtedly disappointing, we do anticipate the fourth season to start filming soon.
