Futari Ecchi Mangaka Aki Katsu Takes A Break Till April to Recover from Recent Surgery
It’s tough enough when your favorite series goes on a break, but it’s tougher when the mangaka’s health is involved. We know Japan’s work environment forces the authors to take all-nighters to reach deadlines.
This has already caused major health problems for some of our favorite mangaka’s and now Aki Katsu is on the list.
Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine has recently announced that Aki Katsu, author of Futari Ecchi manga is hospitalized and will be on a hiatus till April. The manga will resume once he recovers from surgery.
No other details of his surgery were mentioned but it seems like it may take a long time for him to recover.
Aki Katsu’s Futari Ecchi was first serialized in the Young Animal Magazine back in 1997.
The manga tells the story of the love life of a couple of married 20 year olds as they slowly fall in love with each other.
The manga’s adult plot and theme impressed fans, and paved the way for two spin-offs named “Futari Ecchi For Ladies” and “Futari Ecchi Gaiden: Akira” in the year 2004 and 2017.
Two original video animations (OVAs) were also made in 2002 and 2014 and three live-action movies were released in 2011-2012.
Aki Katsu often describes his manga, Futari Ecchi, as a guide for couples falling in love.
Hakusensha has recently published the manga’s 82nd compiled book volume in November of 2020 which proves its ever-growing popularity despite its author’s poor health condition right now.
