Jokes aside, this is the first time a movie from the Gintama franchise has achieved massive success in such a short amount of time.

Although this film was marketed as the last film for the franchise, we would be fools to believe it so quickly, especially since the series is famous for its pranks.

Gintama: THE FINAL has earned over ¥1 billion at the box office within 16 days of its release. The film was released on 8th January, and it broke the billion yen mark by 25th January.

Before Gintama: The Final was released, Mugen Train was on the weekend chart’s top rank for 12 consecutive weeks. It is hard to believe, but Mugen Train’s solo reign was broken by none other than Gintama.

The movie immediately became a trending topic, and it is still not done with climbing the ranks!

Although the series is often described as shonen, the movie’s audience’s ratio proves that it is popular amongst both sexes. The movie attendees were 40% male and 60% female, ranging from late teens to 30s.

The first film of the Gintama franchise, Gintama: The Movie earned $10.02 million (1.04 billion yen) when it was released in 2010. The second film, Gintama: The Movie: The Final Chapter: Be Forever Yorozuya, earned $16.38 million (1.7 billion yen).

The fact that Gintama: The Final was released in the middle of a pandemic, and yet it brought out the crowd to the theatre, says a lot about its girth.

He agrees to an unequal contract with the aliens, placing a ban on carrying swords in public and allowing the invaders to enter the country.

The samurai’s swords are confiscated, and the Tokugawa bakufu becomes a puppet government.

The series focuses on an eccentric samurai, Gintoki Sakata, who works as an odd-jobs freelancer. Although the story is mostly episodic, a few story arcs and recurring antagonists develop.
