Fans of the Given series need not wait any longer to watch the 2020 movie—Crunchyroll has announced that Given: The Movie has been launched on its streaming site, as of Wednesday. DVD and Blu-Ray versions are also releasing on the 3rd of February.
The movie is a direct sequel to the first season of the anime. It was announced in September 2019 after the final episode of the show. Scheduled for a May 2020 release, it was postponed to an August 22 Japan release due to Covid-19. So far, the movie was not available for international viewing, nor did it release in overseas movie theatres.
Given is based on Natsuki Kizu’s original manga, which began serialisation in in the bimonthly manga magazine Chéri+ 2013. Its 11-episode anime adaptation captured widespread international attention. It was the first boys’ love (BL) series to air on Fuji TV’s Noitamina.
The synopsis of the film:
Ritsuka Uenoyama is a high school student who’s jaw dropped when he hears Mafuyu Sato sing. He and his bandmates, Haruki Nakayama and Akihiko Kaji, welcome him to their group as a vocalist. After joining them, Mafuyu’s first live performance is a success and they make their official debut as a band under the name ‘Given’. As all of this unfolds, Ritsuka slowly realizes that he has feelings for Mafuyu. Haruki, for his part, has had feelings for Akihiko for years, but he has a relationship with his roommate, the violinist Ugetsu Murata. Haruki, Akihiko and Uegutsu’s love collides on the big screen and everything is set in motion.
