Thanks for visiting Anime Rants today. Guild Receptionist episode 10 was slightly boring, but I enjoyed it overall because Alina and Jade are both so cute and strong. In addition, this episode made me realize that Alina fits into the anime character archetype of the tsundere. Like any true tsundere, she started cold and aggressive, but is slowly softening up toward the male love interest as the story develops.
Do I wish that female characters were written more organically and realistically in anime? Yes, of course. Do I still like the tsundere trope once in a while? Also yes. Tsundere girls can be incredibly entertaining. With that out of the way, let’s recap this episode of Guild Receptionist.
Episode 10: A Ghost May Show Up During Training, but Nobody Told Me About It
Episode Rating: 7/10
While Alina continued the “new employee training,” Jade continued his “image improvement campaign” by keeping his distance and not being too chatty. This was actually starting to make Alina feel bad. Meanwhile, Jade started to suspect that Guildmaster Glen was the man in black who had been telling adventures about the secret quests. Glen seemed like an upstanding man, so Jade didn’t want to doubt him, but it was almost certain there was a traitor in the Guild.

Jade epsecially didn’t want to suspect Glen when the old man had already been through so much pain in his life. Fifteen years ago, Glen was part of the previous Silver Sword party. Everyone except him was wiped out in a deadly dungeon, including his daughter, Lynn the Healer. The loss was devastating, changing Glen forever. If Glen was indeed the man in black, then his motivation might be to bring his daughter back to life with the power of a dark god.

Meanwhile, Alina was sitting on a bench alone while Laila went to get food from the cafeteria. One of the creepy guys from the previous episode arrived and started hitting on Alina in an extremely creepy and disrespectful way. She might have beat him to a pulp, and it would have been deserved, but Jade suddenly showed up to help. He basically threatened to have the creep fired from the Guild, which quickly made the scumbag hurry away.

After being helped by Jade, Alina was able to be honest for long enough to tell him that the image improvement campaign was having the opposite effect. Essentially, Alina told him to be himself from now on. Jade was glad for Alina’s honesty and apologetic for making her feel bad. Alina was so tsundere in this scene. It was funny and cute. On a less humorous note, poor Alina and Laila were told to do overtime work even while the training was still happening. They stayed up late plugging away at paperwork.

Elsewhere, a mysterious man with a skull mask stole the leftover dark god core from Shelley, who had been researching the magical relic. Apparently, Shelley realized something important just before being knocked unconscious by the intruder. The round black core was actually the real body of a dark god. The humans of the past infused living people with the cores to give the dark gods human forms. I’m not yet sure of the significance of this revelation.

While Laila and Alina were up late doing overtime, a ghostlike monster possessed the creepy guy from earlier and broke into the dorm. Laila was scared out of her mind, but Alina quickly punched the man so hard that the monster left his body and vanished. (Jade later explained that it was definitely a dungeon monster rather than the spirit of a dead human.) Laila was still frightened, so she convinced Alina to come with her and meet up with Jade, Lowe, and Lululee. Safety in numbers.

While walking with Alina, Jade, and the others, Laila spotted a dark figure. Alina and the Silver Sword members chased down the shadowy enemy. It was the man with the skull mask. He prepared a trap for his targets, luring them into a magic circle which then turned into a pitfall. The heroes plummeted down into the darkness. To be continued.
