When I first started watching Guild Receptionist, I thought it would be 80-20 ratio of comedy to emotional moments. In reality, the series is a bit heavier, with serious emotional dilemmas taking up roughly 50% of the time. For example, in episode 11, we learn the profound grief suffered by Glen after his daughter was killed in front of him.
Grief can change people. The gravity of losing others must never be forgotten or belittled. I haven’t lost anyone in a long time, and I hope it stays that way. Anyway, let’s get to business and review Guild Receptionist episode 11!

Episode 11: It May Be a Trap, but I Have to Keep Moving Forward
Episode Rating: 7/10
The man in black revealed himself to be Glen, the Guildmaster, just as Jade suspected. He was behind all the events so far, including manipulating Heinz, all for the purpose of trying to acquire a dark god’s core. Now that he had one, Glen would trade his soul for power. He would become a dark god himself, and his time-turning spell would upgrade from a Sigurth Skill to a Dia Skill. This would allow him to go far back in time enough to prevent the death of his daughter, Lynn (supposedly).

This episode showed us flashbacks of Glen’s history and life with his adopted daughter. She was adorable, sincere, and brave. Eventually, she joined the Silver Sword as their healer. Then, while trying to clear a boss room in an underground dungeon, the entire party except for Glen was wiped out. The dragon boss they were fighting reduced them to charred, crispy corpses. No wonder Glen got mentally fucked from seeing that.

Glen went on to explain that he would probably lose his will to the dark god after trading away his soul. So, he asked Alina to kill him once that happened. Jade and the others – especially Alina – were pissed off, feeling betrayed and used by Glen. They tried to tell him he couldn’t bring back dead people, and that even if he could, Lynn would not be happy if her father sacrificed his soul for her. Glen didn’t listen. He instead proceeded to combine with the dark god’s core by attaching it to his left hand.

Using his new Dia Skill, Glen turned back time, and Alina was able to observe. However, the Guildmaster was only able to go back to just after Lynn was burned to death. When he tried to go further back, it wouldn’t work. Forced to see the blackened corpse of his daughter again, Glen began to break. Suddenly, the dark god took over completely. Glen’s soul was devoured and only the monstrous deity was left in its place. He was also hungry for more souls. It was time for the final battle.
