Guild Receptionist Episode 12 Review – Solo No More

Alina has always been an independent and stubborn character, and there’s nothing wrong with that. However, for her character journey in this series, she needed to know that she wasn’t alone. That’s why it was satisfying to see the end of this episode, where the title card was changed from “I’ll Solo Any Boss” to “We’ll Beat Every Boss Together.” It was a wholesome way to end this charming and sometimes intense little anime. Let’s go over the events of episode 12.

Episode 12: I May Be a Guild Receptionist, But I’ll Fight to the Bitter End to Get Out of Working Overtime

Episode Rating: 9/10

The episode opened with the battle between Alina’s group and Dark God Glen. Lowe and Lululee were quickly knocked out of commission. However, Lululee was strong enough to combine her Sigurth skill with Jade’s, a feat which they had practiced together during training. It gave him the power to anticipate some of Glen’s moves. Combining Sigurth skills was apparently a great way to combat a Dia skill. Jade now had a fighting chance.

Despite his best efforts, there was only so much Jade could do against time magic. When Glen froze time again, Alina broke through it, establishing that she can surpass a Dia Skill. Then Alina proceeded to angrily lectures Glen about treasuring his memories with his daughter. Even more important than that, Alina said, Glen needed to keep his promise to stop her overtime work. So, she smacked him with her hammer so hard his dark god arm was ripped clean off. The core faded away into magical black smoke.

Glen was able to survive because he didn’t fully unlock the dark god’s power. His soul was not all the way devoured. After a few days of being unconscius, Glen woke up, missing his left arm. He didn’t want to be alive and couldn’t understand why the others didn’t kill him. His regrets and grief would always be present, he said. But Alina was having none of the old man’s whining. She bullied him fiercely and said he would need to stay alive to atone and fulfill his promise to her.

Jade was curious about Glen’s old master, who gave him information about dark gods and raising people from the dead. He asked after the identity of that person. However, when Glen tried to share the information, some mental spell was set off, erasing his memories of the person responsible. He had been silenced by someone powerful. And that someone could use Dia skills, as evidenced by the fact that the spell also repelled Sigurth skills that tried to interfere and heal his mind.

As things settled back to normal at Alina’s job, Jade and the Silver Sword members often stopped by to help her do overtime work. One evening, Jade gave Alina a pretty green crystal pendant. It wasn’t the type that glowed when someone was near death, so it represented the hope that nobody would die. After some initial hesitation, Alina gratefully accepted the gift. She was finally starting to open up to Jade a little.

(Side note: in reality, Jade’s incessant pursuit of Alina would be problematic when she’s clearly not interested. But this is a fantasy anime with two adorable and spunky characters who I actively ship in my head. It’s got nothing to do with reality.)

I liked the way this episode set things up so there could be room for a second season. I’ll definitely watch it if such a thing is released anytime soon. I’ll probably write a full review of Guild Receptionist at some point. For now, my initial rating for the show is 7/10 overall with a higher score for personal enjoyment (8/10). That’s all for today.

~Thanks for reading~
