Guild Receptionist Episode 6 Review

Greetings, dear readers. This will be a short post because I’m in a hurry today. Although I’m enjoying Guild Receptionist so far, it feels like the show doesn’t know quite what it wants to be. The first episode or two were light-hearted and cute, with darker elements appearing often starting in the third episode. I don’t mind the slightly more serious atmosphere, but it feels inconsistent at times. This sixth episode focused again on Lululee and her history. Let’s go over it quickly.

Episode 6: I May be the Silver Sword’s Back Attacker, But I’m Gonna Catch the Jerk who Started That Rumor

Episode Rating: 6/10

Alina accompanied the Silver Sword members on a mission to get to the bottom of the rumors about the secret quests. On the way, they stopped by a beautiful lake and relaxed. Before long, the group encountered Heitz, a shady adventurer who had been spreading the rumor and claiming that it was true. Jade and company tried to fight him, but Heitz escaped. One of his men got left behind – a red-haired man who used to be in the same party as Lululee several years ago.

Before Alina knocked him senseless with her war hammer, the man called Lululee a murderer. This clearly upset Lululee and triggered some PTSD symptoms over the next few days. The classic symptoms were nightmares and flashbacks. As a character, Lululee is framed as extremely cute, docile, and fragile. I knew she didn’t literally kill anyone. However, I was still curious to know the story. Lululee explained everything in private to Lowe a few days later.

Lululee was in a party with the red-haired tank and several other adventurers. They were overconfident, charging into battle with a dungeon floor boss before they were completely prepared. One by one, the adventurers were cut down. Two were seriously injured. Lululee could only heal one of them in full, so she had to make a cruel choice and decide who to save. The pressure broke her and Lululee was unable to decide. She tried to heal them both partially, resulting in both of them dying.

Lowe listened without reacting. When the story was done, he told Lululee that he trusted her far more than any random man from another party. Even if she had actually killed someone, Lowe would probably understand, provided there had been no other option or it was an accident. This is a good attitude for an adventurer to have. It’s also a good move for a friend. Lululee and Lowe clearly have an important bond.

On a side note, this episode briefly introduced Shelley, a friend of Jade’s and a member of the guild. She is some kind of adventurer/scientist who is keenly interested in research. I absolutely love female characters of this type. I hope Shelley appears again and gets some solid character development down the line. She also has a beautiful and colorful character design. I love her hair.

Alina and Jade finished the overtime work on the night before the three-day festival. To celebrate, the two of them went out drinking. I’m not sure why Jade was so put off by the idea at first, but it seemed like a good time. While in a drunken stupor, Alina called Jade “Shroud,” the name of the older adventurer who died when she was a child. Jade doesn’t know the full story, so he naturally thought Shroud was someone that Alina was still waiting for. This clearly worried him as someone pursuing Alina romantically.

The resulting romantic drama could provide an opportuniy for Alina to talk about her trauma. In addition to this show’s cute art style, I like the way it handles trauma for the characters. Anyway, that’s all for today.

~Thanks for Reading~
