Haikyuu 398 Recap:
Ushiwaka sends a powerful spike Hinata’s way. Hinata digs it with great difficulty and succeeds. However, the ball goes back to Adler court. Seeing this free ball, the Adlers execute another Synchro Attack. They all are eager to hit and Ushiwaka radiated a sinister energy, ready to smash the ball to death on Jackals court.
Kageyama realizes this and so does the Jackals. Ushiwaka wants to demolish Hinata there, who in turn, welcomes the challenge. Hinata gets ready in the blocking position. He remembers his beach volleyball training perfectly.
The ball comes roaring towards him and he digs it. It looks like a lucky break, but in reality, it was a calculated defense. The ball flies off his dig and moves towards the middle of the court.
Hinata remembers his time training. His defense is not the flashy kind but it is the right kind indeed. His positioning, his posture, his timing, his game sense – everything has improved by leaps and bounds. But what is most impressive, is his balance. He doesn’t leave the group while defending and he does not take a knee when digging.
We get a flashback of Hinata’s amazing journey! We see how he fell sick and was taken off court. How he went to Brazil and trained properly, how he kept a series of books, dedicated to mastering all aspects of the game. After all, it is all a part of volleyball.
In the present, The ball hovers near the net region and Hinata makes a swift movement. The chapter is titled “He who must climb a Ladder must begin at the Bottom”.

It seems Weekly Shonen Jump is issuing changes to its system. We will get to that in a bit.
As you know, Jump issues release on Wednesday in Japan. Haikyuu Chapter 399 Raw Scans will be released in this weeks issue and the date will be 24 June, 2020. Now here’s the catch – it seems fan translation will not be required or even possible anymore.
On 26 June 2020, two days before time, the Official English Translation and HD Scans of Haikyuu 399 will be released on the Viz, Mangaplus, and Shonen Jump app platforms. They will be available for free.
Now let us address the change. The system so far is this: On Wednesday, a new issue of Jump Releases. On Friday, the fan translations are released by scanlators in various languages. On Sunday, the official translations are released in high definition scans.
Apparent, this system is facing a change! We don’t know if it is permanent or not but this week’s pattern is this : On Wednesday, the raw scans are released. On Friday, the official scans are released. This renders fan translation unnecessary as people have to wait less plus scanslators are not fast enough to release on Thursday.
This is in fact, a very positive change as it removes piracy from the system.

Hinata’s last motion is shrouded by ambiguity. Was he trying to act as a middle blocker and shut out the upcoming spikes or is he going for his own spike to win a point? We saw Hinata be a great defender in this match – he positioned well and helped in middle blocking whenever he could, he was able to stuff Hoshiumi’s spike, he bumped a variety of shots and even dug out Ushiwaka’s spikes!
In Haikyuu Manga 399, we believe it will be shown that Hinata cleanly dug out Ushiwaka’s shot. At this time, we are all wondering whether the ball is still in Jackal court or if it has moved to the Adlers.
