‘Housing Complex C’ Anime’s Ending Hints Toward Humanity’s Doom

Horror is not always about ghosts or even the demon world. Sometimes it is about a twisted reality that is adapted perfectly in the recent horror fiction, ‘Housing Complex C.’

Fallen deities and their brainwashed followers prove to be more terrifying than actual ghosts due to their creepy nature and suspicious activities. American author H.P. Lovecraft is famous for writing such weird and horrific pieces of fiction, and this anime is based on his creation, Cthulhu Mythos.

Adult Swim’s ‘Housing Complex C’ encaptured the Lovecraftian idea of horror and gave us a cryptic ending that confused most of us.

At the end of episode 4, Kimi, or the god Iyoyoloki Soyohosu, ended the time loop on the housing complex, leaving Kanchan as the sole survivor.

It was revealed that Kimi has had the residents stuck in a time loop of the year 2000 for 20 years. Kimi’s reason for doing so was that she had been testing humanity for the past 20,000 years to see if it was worthy of eternity.

After observing all those years and the recent events, Kimi concludes that humankind has failed the test and is not worthy of living. This leads us to one possible conclusion: Kimi will annihilate humanity.

Kimi might look like an innocent 9-year-old, but she is immensely powerful and witty. The girl took care of Kuzululu’s followers with little to no effort and even declared how the latter was a lesser god.

Iyoyoloki Soyohosu is a supreme deity capable of destruction and changing fates. We’ve seen it in the anime enough times, and there’s no way humans will survive if Kimi decides to eradicate them all, as no one can go against her.

The anime received heavy criticism as people think of Lovecraftian horror as more of a slow burn. Instead of taking things slow and building suspense, the story wrapped everything up in four episodes.

Regardless, if you love horror and are looking for a short series, then you should definitely try this one out.
