How Deep is the DOTA Universe? DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Anime Lore Explained
Netflix’s new approach of turning DOTA 2 into a full-fledged anime series has turned heads of gamers and anime lovers alike. DOTA: Dragon’s Blood had already launched a trailer for the anime series to be released on March 25th. The trailer showcased Dragon Knight Davion and Princess Mirana’s story.
Devoid of some serious lore knowledge, the anime fans were having a hard time understanding the DOTA universe. Even gamers who had played the game in their childhood want a fresh reminder to understand DOTA’s story better.
Good news for all those people out there. Netflix has got your back.
Netflix cleverly appointed some of the Esport and DOTA 2 gaming community’s prominent names like Jake Kanner, a.k.a SirActionSlacks, Jorien van der Heijden a.k.a Sheever, and Owen Davies a.k.a ODPixel to explain the world of DOTA to us.
The video starts with Jake explaining how DOTA’s universe goes beyond a timeline we could ever imagine. A sole entity called The Primordial Mind had developed emotions and split into two distinct versions of itself, calling themselves The Radiant and The Dire.
These two personalities trapped in a “Mad Moon” had escaped their cage and landed on the DOTA Earth. There the two manipulated the creatures of the planet, extending their own will. The creatures turned deadly, and a war started waging amongst them, creating what we now know as DOTA (Defense of the Ancients).
Jorien continues with her rendition of the DOTA 2 lore. She says fate brought the personalities to the magical land controlled by the elements: fire, earth, water, and storm. Within the land creatures, Gods and even demons existed.
Netflix’s DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Anime Premieres March 25; Trailer Dives Into DOTA Universe
Keeping all these magical tropes aside, Owen explains that DOTA: Dragon’s Blood follows the journey of the brave Dragon Knight Davion, just one of the heroes from the hundreds involved in the final Battle of the Ancients.
DOTA’s 18 years old vast lore cannot just be explained in a short 5 minutes video alone. As Jake says, we now know about 2% of the DOTA Universe.
But, just with these explanations, I am incredibly excited to jump on the DOTA train and cannot wait for the series’ March 25th premiere.
