Ikigami: The Ultimate Limit Manga Receives A New Chilling Series this Fall

Ikigami is one of the darkest manga I have ever read. As it gets a new series, I find myself questioning just how messier it can get.

In the world of Ikigami, the government has decided on a special system to ensure a smooth functioning state. By killing one person at a time, they hope that the nation will value the concept of life. 

This system is even scarier than it sounds, as there is no escape for any individual.

Motoro Mase’s Ikigami: The Ultimate Limit manga is thus receiving a new series titled Ikigami: Sairen or Ikigami: The Return. The Big Comic magazine will be publishing its first chapter in its next issue on September 10.

It is not yet clear whether the new series will be a spinoff or sequel of the original manga. In Ikigami, the main focus was on the tales of various people who were sentenced to death. All of these instances were connected through Kengo Fujimoto, who delivers these notices. 

Will the new series be based on a new Ikigami officer, or will the corrupt system finally face its downfall in the hands of citizens? 

The manga is so popular that it even received a live-action movie adaptation in 2008. 

Motoro Mase seems bent on delivering another heart-wrenching tale that will follow the same vein as Ikigami, so I advise you to buckle up and not succumb to the pain as you read Ikigami: Sairen. 

About Ikigami

Ikigami is a manga series by Motoro Mase that was serialized from 2005 to 2012. It received a live-action movie adaptation in 2008.

The series’ plot focuses on a government scheme called the “National Prosperity Prevention Act.” Under the guise of protecting civilian peace and happiness, the government kills off one person at a time and even portrays it as a glorious cause.

The protagonist is a government employee who is a deliverer of such death notices. He finds out the hypocrisy of the government and gets involved in a twisted plot.
