JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Has the anime Stone Ocean been cancelled?

Three years ago, after JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, which was based on the fifth part of the manga, came out, there were rumors on Reddit and YouTube that the sixth part, Stone Ocean, was going to be skipped and part 7—Steel Ball Run—would be made into an anime instead. Luckily, these rumors were not true.

There was never a point where production on the Stone Ocean anime was halted. The sixth installment of Araki’s manga was adapted into David Production’s fifth season. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean’s initial release was on December 1, 2021, followed by another 12 episodes on September 1, 2022, and the final 14 episodes on December 1, 2022.

In the wake of Golden Wind or Vento Aureo, Stone Ocean is a 158-chapter manga.

Adventures of Jolyne Kujo, Jotaro’s estranged daughter, are at the heart of Stone Ocean. Dio Brando, Pucci, Weather Report, Costello, Foo Fighters, and Thunder McQueen, among many others, make appearances.

Fans’ reactions to the animated adaptation of the conclusion to Stone Ocean, one of the most highly anticipated scenes in the series’ history, have been mixed.

In any case, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean represents the final chapter in the series’ long and storied history.

Is Stone Ocean the end of the story?

Even though Stone Ocean isn’t the last chapter in the manga, it does mark the end of the canon JoJo timeline.

Part 7 is sometimes referred to as a spin-off because it takes place in the same universe as Part 8 (JoJolion) and Part 9 (tentatively titled JoJolands).

Stone Ocean is the concluding installment of a five-part series.

Will there be a season 6 of JoJo?

A sixth season of JoJo has not been confirmed. Part 7 of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure would be adapted for Season 6, titled Steel Ball Run, and would focus on Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli’s participation in the titular race.

Given that David Production has other shows like Urusei Yatsura and Undead Unluck scheduled for 2023, the chances of a sixth season are low.

There was a long delay between Season 3: Diamond is Unbreakable and Seasons 4: Golden Wind and 5: Stone Ocean, though. Steel Ball Run is arguably the fandom’s favorite segment, so a sixth season is not completely out of the question. About a year from now is when we can expect to find out for sure.

Is the anime series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure canceled?

In November 2022, the staff of David Production, the studio responsible for the JoJo anime, partially confirmed that season five, or part six, Stone Ocean, would be the final episode of the series on Netflix Anime’s Fukabolix Podcase.

According to Kenichi Suzuki, the series’ director, the production company discussed adapting up to season 6 early on if the first few seasons were successful.

As Jolyne Kujo’s voice actress, Fairouz Ai, affirmed, “Stone Ocean depicts the conclusion to the Joestars and Dio’s shared destiny,” making it the optimal choice.

As I’ve already mentioned, Episodes 7 and 8 move to a different dimension. Part 9 of the manga has not yet been written, so even if David Production decides to keep making the anime, it will have to wait for Araki to finish writing it, given the studio’s track record with adaptations and releases.

Seventh segment SBR is also longer than the previous segments, making animation an extremely lengthy process. A break from JoJo may be in order now that Undead Unluck has become so popular at David Production.

Considering the success of the original video animations known as Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe, David Production may decide to shift its attention to illustrating these short stories instead.

The Rohan tales are a continuation of Diamond Is Unbreakable, Book 4. The one-shot manga stories are still in the works. The fact that the first one came out in 1997 should give you an idea of how well received they are.

The JoJo anime hasn’t been cancelled or stated to be finished, but it’s highly unlikely that any new episodes will be produced by David Production besides the Rohan Kishibe stories.
