Kadokawa Reveals Gamera’s Return in a New Project
Gamera, the fire-breathing turtle monster, may not be as well-known as Godzilla, but he retains a strong following among kaiju fans. If Gamera had continued to be featured in media, he would be giving Godzilla a run for his money right now.
Gamera was last seen in a full-length feature film in 2006, and in a 50th-anniversary short film in 2015. After seven long years, Kadokawa intends to reintroduce this cherished kaiju into our life.
Kadokawa has released a teaser video and graphic for a new project dubbed ‘Gamera -Rebirth-.’ Although Netflix has acquired streaming rights for it, the format of this production is unknown.
Gamera’s shadow appears in the video, with a bright green light traveling up his body, as if he’s powering up or reawakening. It concludes with a close-up of Gamera’s furious green-colored eye, with the monster’s terrifying roar playing in the background.
Furthermore, the franchise has released a teaser image via the project’s official Twitter handle. As seen in the video, it has Gamera’s green lit-up silhouette and eye.
Based on how accurate and lifelike Gamera’s eyes appear, the production is most likely a 3D CGI animation. This style of animation is frequently utilized in anime made for a global audience.
Given how Netflix has already bought distribution rights, it will almost certainly be 3D CGI or something along the lines of ‘Arcane’ and ‘Cyberpunk 2077.’
In terms of format, it will most likely be a series rather than a single installment. Kadokawa appears to be making a great deal out of this, implying that the project will be divided into several pieces.
The project’s scale figure will be on exhibit from Friday through Sunday at the Tamashii Nation 2022 event. Aside from that, the images will be displayed on some of Japan’s busiest and most popular billboards.
During these days, Kadokawa and Netflix may share further details about the project. Let us know what you think about this new Gamera venture in the meanwhile.
