Long-Running Manga Series ‘Berserk’ to Get New Arc After a Decade
The world of manga is abuzz with excitement as the saga of Guts, Casca, and Griffith continues. Kentaro Miura, the brilliant creator of Berserk, may have left us, but his dark fantasy masterpiece lives on.
Miura sensei, author of the classic hit ‘Berserk,’ passed away in 2021 due to an acute aortic dissection. The manga went on hiatus after his passing but was resumed in Young Animal in June 2022 by Miura’s close friend Kouji Mori.
On Friday, this year’s 18th issue of Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine revealed that Kentarou Miura’s Berserk manga will start a new arc with its latest chapter, in the magazine’s next issue on September 22.
To celebrate the new chapter and the release of the new volume on September 29 in Japan, the first since Miura’s passing away, Berserk will be getting a color page.
Writer Kouji Mori and Studio Gaga are steering the ship, and they’re not holding back. Mori is a close childhood friend of Miura’s, whom Miura frequently consulted for plot details on Berserk.
Mori said in June 2022 he “know’s the story for Berserk up to the very end.” Mori drew a one-shot manga in Young Animal in 2021 that tells his story of lifelong friendship and creative relationship with Miura.

Berserk is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kentaro Miura. As of May 2021, the Berserk manga had over 50 million copies in circulation, including digital versions, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time.
Guts, the protagonist of the manga is a former mercenary who is also known as the Black Swordsman. He has a traumatic childhood and is also betrayed by the person who he learns to trust the most.
He is marked for death and his curse attracts demons to him. His quest is riddled with misfortune and darkness while he tries to seek revenge against his betrayer.
