Makoto Shinkai’s First New Film in 3 Years Drops Scene-Stealing Teasers
Makoto Shinkai, the movie magician, has just revealed the first look at his latest project, and I must admit that I was hooked immediately.
Can you really blame me now? Some of the most successful anime films in Japan were created by Shinkai. If you’re an otaku, then there’s no way you have escaped the intricate world that he builds in his movies.
Suzume no Tojimari is the upcoming blessing, in the form of an anime film, that Makoto Shinkai will place on us. The movie will premiere on November 11, 2022.
Since this is Shinkai’s first new film in almost three years, expectations are sky-high. To meet some of this anticipation, a new visual has been revealed.
The visual comes with the tagline “I’ll see you later.” The visual shows Suzume walking towards a door in the middle of nowhere with a small wooden chair in her hands. It almost feels like something is about to happen.
Makoto Shinkai has further commented that the movie is about closing open doors. Open doors might refer to tying loose ends or finishing something that has been started.

Another still from the film shows Suzume walking towards an abandoned former hot springs town. If you are waiting for a trailer, don’t worry, because a new teaser will be released on April 10.
The film will be a road movie around Japan, and it’s about closing doors.
Makoto Shinkai wishes to give movie-goers a reason to smile while coming out of the theaters through this upcoming project. I hope it gets released outside Japan soon because I can’t wait to see this wonderful brainchild of Shinkai.
