Women’s services during wars have gone unnoticed for decades.
Even though some women have played important roles as soldiers, spies, or strategizing during various historical events, they remain obscure. Here is a manga that brings out the story of a female war hero.
Kawashima Yoshiko wa Otoko ni Naritai manga will end in the February issue of the Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine.
The series was first serialized in October 2019. Its third compiled volume will ship on 9th February.
The manga is based on Yoshiko Kawashima, a female spy during the Second Sino Japanese War. She was one of the best spies of Japan and was also named the “Eastern Mata Hari” for her achievements.
However, her story does not have a happy ending as she was tried and executed by the Republic of China when she was captured after the war.
The manga tries to do justice to Yoshiko and her bravery as she infiltrated China under the disguise of a man.
Tanaka Hosana, the author of the Yoshiko Kawashima manga, has also created the Holy Corpse Rising manga series which was serialized from 2014 to 2018.
The Ninja Girls manga by Hosana was licensed by Del Ray and later by Kodansha Comics.
