The 2020 event was held in February at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland.

The official website for Katsucon announced on Wednesday that the convention for the year 2021 is cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation.

This is the first time in 27 years that the event is canceled. Now the staff aim to hold the convention again in 2022.

The announcement states that the staff intended to move forward with next year’s convention and explored all structural changes to hold the event safely.

But in the end, the staff and the convention center concluded that they would be unable to hold this event up to their standards with the state COVID-19 regulations.

The announcement ends by stating that the safety of staff, guests, and attendees is their top priority, and they are looking forward to the 2022 convention.

The convention is refunding for all the pre-reservations and hotel reservations. The refund will be returned in the same method it was registered by and will be processed within 30 days of the cancellation.

Once the refund is processed, it will take about 5-7 business days to return to the attendees’ accounts. However, the attendees are currently unable to transfer their reservation to the 2022 event.

All the vendors, artists, and panelists who have submitted to participate in Katsucon 2021 are instructed to contact their Katsucon POC for more information.

Katsucon 2020 was held from 14th to 16th February, just a few weeks before the pandemic situation arose. The convention was a huge success, and it is estimated that over 17,000 people attended the event.
