Netflix’s Trailer for Horror Anime ‘Exception’ Confirms October Debut

Netflix has finally dived into the psychological horror anime genre with its upcoming project Exception. The question remains whether this will inspire more like it or become yet another failed investment for the company.

Let’s take a look at the story first. It is set in deep space in an era where humanity is forced to escape Earth and make another planet inhabitable. Also, the technology has advanced to a point where you can make an identical copy of yourself with a biological 3D printer.

Following this, five people are chosen to be printed and tasked to search for a planet suitable for terraforming. Chaos occurs when printing goes wrong, resulting in a deformed crewmate who now terrorizes the ship.

Netflix’s latest trailer for Exception gives us an insight into the horrific event and how the crew tackles the situation. It also confirms the anime’s debut on October 13, 2022.

While it is indeed a horror anime, the theme also centers on the definition of ‘human.’ The deformed version of the crewmate Lewis looks nothing like a human being but still shares the same past and personality with him.

The trailer also reveals that Ryuichi Sakamoto will be the anime’s score composer and musician. Sakamoto has previously added tunes to the Sayonara, Tyranno, and Appleseed movies.

Coming back to the video, it starts with the crew getting an alert that Lewis’ print is about to get over. However, what was waiting for them was nothing less than an abomination.

Filled with anger and confusion, Lewis’ disfigured copy goes around wreaking havoc and destroying the ship. After a while, Lewis’ actual print is developed without errors, giving the crew an upper hand in dealing with the monster.

Moreover, the video has also revealed the main cast:
