Osamu Tenzuka’s Phoenix Gets Anime Adaptation In 2023
On November 30, Disney + announced that a new anime adaptation of Osamu Tezuka‘s manga “Phoenix” is currently in the works. The anime is being produced by Studio 4°C and will stream worldwide exclusively on Disney + in 2023.
The key visual and a trailer for the anime have been released.
The anime’s plot revolves around a young girl Romi and her partner as they as they depart from a now destroyed Earth and head to the planet Eden17 to begin a new life. However, on reaching the new planet they discover that life has already been made extinct on the new world.
Now, Romi finds herself having to live an even harsher life on this new planet. The trailer for the anime focuses on Romi and the people in her life as she goes on adventures trying to survive in an unfamiliar place.
The manga the anime is based on consists of 12 books with each book telling a different, self-contained story that take place in different eras. The manga series was never completed and was cut short by the writer’s death in 1989.
Details about the anime such as the cast and staff have not yet been revealed.
