Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle Ranks Just Behind Demon Slayer With #2 On The Film Charts

2020 has been an epic year for animated and Japanese films in general.

With the Demon Slayer movie snatching the crown of the highest-grossing film, Evangelion returning with its final film, and Violet Evergarden making a theatre debut, it’s no wonder the new 2020 Pokémon anime movie is already picking up the sales.

Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle a.k.a Pokémon the Movie: Coco, released on this December 25th, was showcased in more than 375 movie theatres and is currently the #2 ranked film in Japan.

The film was released on Christmas Day after being rescheduled from a July 10 premiere, due to Covid-19.

Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle is the 23rd film in the Pokémon franchise and has earned over 276 million yen (US$2.67 million) within 5 days of its release.

Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is currently holding strong with the #1 position for straight 10 weeks and has earned over 32,478,895,850 yen (about US$314 million) in 73 days approx.

The live action “The Promised Neverland” movie dropped from #3 to #5 on its second week of release while Poupelle of Chimney Town by Studio 4°C is currently holding the #4 spot.

The story of Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle follows our favorite Pokémon trainer Ash whose love for adventure takes him to the Okoya Forest where he meets a boy named Coco, brought up by wild pokémons.

Now, Coco needs to learn his true human nature while Ash helps him along the way.
