Sakamoto Days Episodes 5 and 6 Reviews

Welcome to Anime Rants. I’m trying to catch up on the latest episodes of Sakamoto Days. Today we’re covering episodes five and six. I ran out of time and have been in a hurry, so these are brief review notes.

  1. Episode 5: Source of Strength
  2. Episode 6: Heisuke Mashimo

Episode 5: Source of Strength

Episode rating: 8/10

Lu’s drunken fight with Obiguro – the female hitman who works with Boiled – was quite entertaining. It seems that Lu experiences rapid mood swings while drunk and that is highly amusing to me. She fought very well. In the end, Obiguro became enamored with Lu Shoatang as a “strong rival.” She even hugged Lu. Shin was safely released.

Sakamoto defeated Boiled with the power of family and rapid weight loss. Boiled accepted his loss and hung around with the Sakamoto’s at the food court. Aoi picked up on what was happening, so Sakamoto told her the truth about the bounty. Boiled said that he was sent by Dodenkai, an evil organization of assassins. The next mission is to gain information about Dodenkai and make the boss retract the bounty.

Elsewhere, the members of “The Order” were gathered around a table, eating dinner. The Order is a special division of the JAA consisting of the very best hitmen, including Nagumo. Sakamoto was once in the Order, too. The members are now being mobilized to hunt down a mysterious enemy who killed 100 hitmen over the last few months.

After learning some info, Sakamoto, Shin, and Lu infiltrated Dodenkai’s base. Much to their surprise, all the leaders of Dodenkai were already dead. It seemed at first that Nagumo killed them, since he was there when Sakamoto walked in. But Nagumo explained that he only stumbled upon the scene of the dead men. He wasn’t the killer.

As the Sakamoto family continued dealing with amateur hitmen at the shop, the mysterious killer was still at large. He always painted a lopsided “X” at the scene of his killings. That’s all we know so far. To be continued.

Episode 6: Heisuke Mashimo

Episode rating: 8/10

The Sakamoto’s shop was damaged by all the hitmen stopping by lately to try to claim the bounty. Shin and Sakamoto decided they would participate in the local paintball tournament and win the million yen prize. They could use this money for repairs.

A certain broke and homeless hitman also planned to participate in the paintball contest. His name was Heisuke Mashimo and he was also interested in killing Sakamoto for the bounty. However, he was so stupid he didn’t even realize that the heavy Sakamoto of the present was the same as the thin Sakamoto from his photograph.

I like Heisuke so far because his stupidity was funny and I can relate to his feelings of inadequacy and hypersensitive emotional reactions. Also, I like how he loves his pet bird so much. The cute yellow bird is named Piisuke, which is roughly the equavilent of Chirpy in English. It’s so lame but so cute.

At the paintball tournament, Lu got drunk and revealed that Sakamoto was the bounty target. Heisuke tried to kill Sakamoto and turned out to be an amazing sniper. Fortunately, Sakamoto and Shin were able to survive and defeat Heisuke together.

After the paintball game ended, Sakamoto told Heisuke that he was the best sniper he had ever fought. This made Heisuke cry tears of joy. It was a happy ending for both sides – though Heisuke is still homeless, and the Sakamoto’s shop stillneeds repairs. The million yen prize went toward repair costs for the town, which Heisuke had damaged with his richochet bullets. Oops.

The last scene showed the meeting of Aoi and Sakamoto in a flashback. They met in a convenience store. It was a funny scene thanks to the exaggerated reactions of Sakamoto. Aoi was very cute. Good episode.

~Thanks for reading~
