This overwork may result in their deteriorating health and even cancellation of a fan favorite manga series. Such was the fate of author of Somali and the Guardian of the Forest (Somali to Mori no Kamisama), Yako Gureishi.

North Star Pictures, publishers of Somali and the Guardian of the Forest manga, posted on Comic Zenon’s website about the end of the manga due to Yako Gureishi’s worsening health.

Yako Gureishi’s manga started its serialization back in 2015 with 6 volumes serialized in total before discontinuation. The fantasy world and the feel-good father-daughter storyline made Somali to Mori no Kamisama a favorite among readers.

“Somali and the Guardian of the Forest” aka Somali and the Forest Spirit tells the story of a little girl named Somali, who gets adopted by a Golem in a world where fictional monsters exist.

The two adopted father daughter duo travel together while making memories and friends along the way.

Owing to the vast popularity, an anime adaptation of the manga ran for 12 episodes from 9th January 2020 to 26th March 2020. You can binge-watch the series on Crunchyroll if you haven’t already.

The anime was a collaboration between the studios Satelight and HORNETS. Crunchyroll also took a huge part in its development by co-producing the series.
