Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc Episode 6

Episode Rating: 10/10

This episode was excellent. I empathized with Miss Sullivan wanting to see the outside world. Even though it was a long time ago, I still remember the way it felt being raised in a cult-like environment, never allowed to set foot in the real world. I also think Wolfram genuinely loves Sullivan in a fatherly way. It was very sweet when he embraced her and she petted his head. Wolfram might be a werewolf after all, since Sullivan said she was completing the spell for “you all” (Japanese: Omaera).

Now let’s get on to the main event. Since Ciel was giving up on his revenge, he breached the contract with Sebastian. Losing patience, Sebastian went to Ciel’s room, forced Finny away, and tried to eat Ciel. This gave Ciel the shock he needed to return to himself. He underwent some intense psychological searching, eventually realizing that he still wanted revenge – but for his own sake. With Ciel “waking up” and going back to his original self, Sebastian immediately stopped his attempt to eat the boy.

Ciel told all the servants he was back to normal. He apologized for acting the way he did, but none of the servants held it against him at all. They pointed out that even the toughest of soldiers can freak out under the right circumstances. Nobody in this setting would have known the label PTSD, but they were nevertheless aware of its existence and understanding that their master was traumatized. That’s about all for this episode. In the next episode, we’ll hopefully find out about the secret behind the curse that the Queen’s letter revealed.

Kowloon Generic Romance Episode 6

Episode Rating: 9/10

This was an extremely important and well-written installment. We learned a lot and met a new character named Yulong. First, let me just say that I’m now super invested in the relationship of Miyuki and Gwen. They better get back together! Speaking of Miyuki, this episode also taught us that he is intersex, being born with both male and female genitalia. This makes Miyuki even more interesting than before. I also really like Gwen and his strong, romantic nature.

From talking to Gwen in the café, Reiko and Yaomay learned that Kudo didn’t kill Reiko. Apparently, for some reason, he blames himself for her death. Gwen was reluctant to talk about the cause of death in case it made Reiko disappear. That’s what we know about Kujirai B’s death so far. But what about the city of Kowloon and the technology of Generic Terra? Let’s go over that, too.

After Kudo and Kujirai got engaged, they heard the news that Kowloon would be demolished. Though most of it was destroyed, a second version of Kowloon materialized as if by magic. Not everyone can see it. For example, Miyuki can see the second Kowloon, but his friend Yulong cannot. Speaking of Yulong, he is voiced by Kengo Kawanishi, a male seiyuu I admire a lot and mostly know for his role as Gen in Dr. Stone.

Back to the topic, Generic Terra is not a space colony like I thought, but perhaps something more like a super computer. It stores memories outside the brain. But it also has unknown effects, and putting it right above the Hong Kong area may have been what generated the second Kowloon. On a final note, the scene in the grocery store with the cup ramen was amusing. I love the dynamic of Reiko and Kudo.

Lazarus Episode 6

Episode Rating: 9/10

This was one of my personal favorite episodes of Lazarus so far. It was about Eleina and the cult in which she grew up. For those who don’t know, I grew up in a very cult-like environment called the Quiverfull Movement. We didn’t have a specific commune, but it was still a cult. The cult in Lazarus is based on worshipping a dragon AI, so it’s quite different from the cult I was raised in, but I imagine many of the principles – such as intense tribalism and indoctrinating children – are probably the same.

(Eleina with her cultist mother)

This installment warned of the dangers of giving up your freedom of thought and information. It wasn’t a very subtle or detailed discussion, but it was still a message I much appreciate. Eleina’s conversation with Hannah in the prison cell was important and reminded me of the people I left behind. I wonder if any of them felt like Hannah. I’m glad Hannah decided to help Eleina and Leland. If not for her flare signal, they might have burned to death before being rescued.

The brief scene with Axel and Naga the AI was interesting. It seems like this show is setting up the question of whether or not Skinner is evil. We still don’t know why he decided to try to destroy the world. In other news, Eleina and Christine are starting to have an important bond. I’m glad Chris is emotionally available for Eleina. It was sweet when they slept in the same bed. Only 17 days remain until Hapna starts killing people.

Your Forma Episode 6

Episode Rating: 8/10

Bigga was an important character in this episode. I don’t understand exactly what a biohacker is, but it was illegal, and Bigga’s father was one of them. Bigga learned from him, but she decided to cooperate with the police. I was shocked that her father was scummy enough to choke her out and threaten her life when surrounded. There’s no redemption for that man. I’m surprised Bigga still cares about him. Love is strange.

Inspector Raissa also had some important moments in this installment. She was attacked by some followers of E, the terrorist conspiracy theorist whose identity is still unknown. Luckily, Raissa only had a minor injury, and Harold walked her home. She also told him about her brother and the tragedy that befell him when he was working on a certain case. I like Raissa and find her incredibly attractive. I hope she doesn’t end up being an antagonist, but I still don’t quite trust her for some reason.

In the last section of the episode, E unleashed a bunch of personal data about Echika, Chief Totoki, and several other inspectors. He was hoping his followers would take that information and target the police force members. There was an explosion in an apartment in the final scene. It may have been Chief Totoki’s apartment, since E doxed her. If it was hers, then her beloved cat is probably dead. To be continued.

~Thanks for reading~
