Sugar Apple Fairy Tale Anime Set to Premiere in January 2023
On 28th October, the media company Kadokawa announced in a press release that an anime adaptation of the light novel series Sugar Apple Fairy Tale is set to premiere in January 2023. The series will be streamed on Crunchyroll.
The TV anime will be produced by J.C. Staff and directed by Yōhei Suzuki. The scriptwriterfor the anime is Seishi Minakami, with Haruko Iizuka handling character designs and Hinako Tsubakiyama as the music composer.
Along with announcement, the key visual for the anime and a teaser trailer have been released.
The plot of Sugar Apple Fairy Talerevolves around Anne Halford, a candy crafter determined to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a Silver Sugar Master, title bestowed upon few candy crafters by royalty.
She embarks on a journey to the capital to fulfil her dream, and purchases Challe, a handsome albeit foul-mouthed fairy as her bodyguard.
Although Anne wishes to befriend Challe, he wants nothing to do with humans as fairies are treated as nothing but property in this kingdom. The story then follows these two on their journey and how their relationship changes throughout.
The cast for the anime has also been announced with Yuka Nukui as Ann Halfor, Masaaki Mizunaka as Shall Fen Shall, Rie Takahashi as Mythrill Reid Pod, and Tomoaki Maeno as Hugh Mercury.
Kadokawa also announced that the original novel series will be publishing a new Collector’s Edition of the first three volumes. The volumes will release on December 28; February 1, 2023; and March 1, 2023.
Kadokawa Beans Bunko will be launching a new arc for the novel series on December 28 2022.
Sugar Apple Fairy Tale anime is based on the light novels written by Miri Mikawa and illustrated by Aki.
The Kadokawa-published series ran from 2010 to 2017 with 17 published volumes, which included two short story anthologies. A manga adaptation of the series ran from 2012 to 2014, which was published by the publishing company Hakusensha.
YozoranoUdon launched a second manga adaptation of the series in November 2021 in Kodakawa’s Young Ace Magazine.
