The series might look like an all-out detective anime at first but it pulls off the rom-com part in a unique fashion.
The story begins in a high school setting where Kimizuka lives his boring life while the mystery part of the story takes place in the past.
Given the light novel’s popularity, it was inevitable that an anime adaptation would happen soon.
The Detective is Already Dead has released the second promotional PV for the upcoming anime on Kadokawa’s official Youtube channel. The series is set to debut on July 4, 2021, with a one-hour-long special episode.
The PV begins with Kimizuka reminiscing about his old detective life. He recalls his first meeting with Siesta.
The scene then cuts to Kimizuka confessing to Siesta and them getting “possibly” engaged. It also introduces Charolette and Natsunagi, who will play major roles in the series.
The PV also debuts the ending theme, “Heartbeat,” by the Hololive Vtuber, Kagura Nana.

The series seemingly plans to execute the romance and the mystery part in a parallel fashion.
We know that the detective is already dead; thus the romance part will be delivered in some sort of flashbacks while in the present day, Kimizuka might look to solve the mystery of the detective’s death.
It is always enjoyable to check out unique ways of storytelling in anime. It can be a miss for many, trying to execute simple things in complicated ways. But hopefully, this anime will hit it just right.
About The Detective Is Already Dead
Written by Nigojū and Umibōzu, The Detective Is Already Dead (Tantei wa Mō, Shindeiru) is a light novel series that follows Kimihiko Kimizuka, a third-year high school student and former assistant of a detective named Siesta.
He made Siesta’s acquaintance three years ago, 10,000 meters above the ground in a hijacked plane. The two went on one death-defying adventure after another for three years that eventually ended with Siesta’s untimely death.
In the present day, Kimihiko tries his best to reintegrate himself back into normal life.
