The Expanse: Sixth Season Ordered Without Cas Anvar
The Expanse, Amazon’s top-rated sci-fi drama and space show, has been renewed for a sixth season even before the fifth season has premiered. Debuting first on Syfy, The Expanse ran successfully for three seasons before the cable network canceled it. Amazon then picked up the show in 2018, and a fourth season was aired. After this, two more seasons were ordered. However, showrunners Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby have revealed that the sixth season will be the final one.
The Hugo Award-winning show is set in the 23rd century, when the solar system is a colony of the human race and the relationship between Earth, Mars, now a military power, and the Asteroid Belt is filled with tension. A war is imminent and anything can spark the flames.
The Expanse has been praised for its tight storylines, intriguing political metaphors and brilliant action. It stars Steven Strait, Cas Anvar, Dominique Tipper and Wes Chatham in the leading roles.
However, it is now being said that Cas Anvar will not be reprising his role as the Martian pilot Alex Kamal in the sixth season. The actor had been accused of sexual harassment by many fans and co-workers, some of whom are below the age of 18. The decision comes after a third-party investigation by Alcon Studios looked into the multiple allegations of his misconduct.
Anvar will appear in the fifth season of the show since filming was over before any of the allegations against him surfaced.
It remains to be seen how The Expanse will handle the actor’s absence in the sixth season.
The first three episodes of the fifth season will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video on December 16th, 2020.
