One of the characters of the show named Tomura Shigaraki possesses a very peculiar form with so many hands all around his body. For this reason, he is a famous villain known among fans for his haunting and gripping demeanour.

In the recent episode, the first time when he was recruited by All For One as a child was shown. It is in this scene that we get to witness the revelation behind the grotesque history of the hands around his body. 

It was exposed that the hands are actually the remains of his family that he had slaughtered. He feels mixed emotions of calmness and anger from those hands and experiences a strange attachment to them. He doesn’t remember his past before meeting All For One and can only see some glimpses of it. 

The episode shows a flashback when he was a young boy, All For One had collected the hands of Shigaraki’s family. He explains to the child that he has a quirk that led to killing his family. And wearing the dead family’s hands makes him feel connected to his broken past. 

The puzzling feeling of rage but tranquillity makes him tap into it and feel a sense of affinity. This horrific explanation makes sense that this disturbance has been driving him the entire time, and it all started with this distressing origin.

The series is an adaptation of a manga series of the same name authored by Kōhei Horikoshi. The manga has been serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump since 2014 with 31 volumes as of August 2021.

The story is set in a world where the human population has gained the ability to develop superpowers called “Quirks”. But the protagonist Izuku Midoriya is born without Quirks but due to his sheer determination, he gets scouted by Japan’s greatest hero, All Might. 

He becomes the successor of All Might and his life takes an interesting turn after he gets enrolled in a prestigious high school for heroes in training.
