The Netflix original anime film Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop has revolutionized the way teen romance films should be made. With its mundane and relatable characters, the movie tells a story of teenage romance and the beauty of youth via poetry (Haiku) and music.
The beauty of the deep bond shared by Cherry and Smile is explored and given greater depth by the portrayal of another side plot of an old man named Fujiyama’s relentless and undying love for his deceased beloved. The romance between the two teenage lovebirds is intricately related to that of Fujiyama and Sakura’s romance.
The anime ends with a scene where Smile is smiling without her mask on, which shows her romance with Cherry has made her accept her insecurities. However, everyone forgot to watch the post-credits scene, thus getting a half-baked viewing experience. If you want to know more, read further.

What Happened in the Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop Ending?
Cherry and his family had to leave on the day of the local festival as they were shifting their house. Though Smile is disheartened, she accepts it and decides to celebrate it nevertheless.
On the day of the festival, she and other staffs at the day centre decide to use another song called Yamazakura by Sakura Fujiyama (fictional) for the Daruma Dance performance. This decision is thought to be very peculiar since usually, the musical accompaniment for the Daruma dance is a folk song.
Before the entire performance commences, Smile decides to broadcast it on her CurioLive. Cherry joins the broadcast and aided by Beaver, he’s forced into confronting his feelings for Smile. He impulsively decides to leave the car and return to where Smile is at the festival.
At the festival, he overcomes his introversion and recites his Haiku out loud to a big audience. The ending scene is beautiful and evokes strong emotions of love, warmth, and nostalgia. When he proclaims his love out loud for Smile in front of everyone, Smile smiles with tears welling down her face and her heart full of love.
After he’s done, we can see Smile taking off her mask and smiling without caring whether she looks bad with her buck teeth. All of us thought the movie ended with this scene. However, many weren’t aware that there’s a post-credits scene which was the perfect ending to the whole movie!
