The Simpsons Cosplay ‘Death Note’ for Spooky Season

The Simpsons show is widely known for predicting the future, featuring famous personalities on a daily basis, and some great parodies. This Halloween, the show decided to take on one of the most popular anime of all time: Death Note.

Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s Death Note has been adapted into various media; from novels to video games, the franchise is everywhere. It has become so widespread that the Duffer Brothers are adapting it as another live-action series.

Given the Halloween season, and its apparent popularity among various media, Death Note finally caught the attention of The Simpsons.

Being famous for its creative parodies, The Simpsons decided to step into the anime world for its Halloween special, ‘Treehouse of Horror XXXIII.’

Episode 6 of season 34 was divided into three segments, each a creative take on a famous franchise. The Death Note parody was titled ‘Death Tome’ and featured Lisa as the protagonist with her brother Bart as the detective L.

The ‘Death Tome’ falls on Lisa from the sky, who doesn’t believe it at first but starts to go on a murder spree after she kills a bad man to save a cat. Just like Death Note’s original protagonist Light Yagami, Lisa is taken over by the feeling of being a hero and bringing justice.

As we all know, The Simpsons love going the extra mile to improve their episodes and did the same for Death Tome. It was fully animated in Death Note’s style by DR Movie, a South Korean animation studio that assisted with the original anime’s production.

Moreover, the segment throws in various references and easter eggs that you might miss in the blink of an eye. The episode was written by Carolyne Omine, who did an impressive job of capturing Death Note’s essence while giving it a comical twist.

If you haven’t seen the episode yet, I strongly suggest you do it now. You don’t need to watch all 34 seasons of The Simpsons for this and can skip to the good part.

Besides Death Note, the episode also features parodies of The Badadook and Westworld. So, if you’re a horror junkie, this is the one for you.
