‘The Tale of the Outcasts’ Anime Welcomes New Cast Members
‘The Tale of the Outcasts’ is a classical anime with supernatural and fantasy elements fabricated into various historical events. It is a story of outcasts born in a time when survival was hard, even for those who were accepted by society.
Set at the end of the 19th century, the story features two protagonists: an orphan and lonely girl, Wisteria, and an equally lonely demon Malbus. Both of them eventually encounter each other and begin searching for a place where both can live in peace.
Its realistic themes with a fantasy twist have made it popular enough to receive an anime adaptation. As revealed by the staff and new visual, ‘The Tale of the Outcasts’ anime is slated for a January 2023 premiere.

The visual features Wisteria and Malbus in the center, with Diana and Wisteria’s brother Snow in the front. In the back, we can see Naberius, Astaroth, and other characters whose identities will be revealed later.
Following this, the franchise has dropped the list of additional cast:
Character | Cast | Other Works |
Diana | Risa Imayanagi | – |
Naberius | Junichi Suwabe | Ryōmen Sukuna (Jujutsu Kaisen) |
Danchō (Commander of the Knights of the Sword Cross) | Ryotaro Okiayu | Byakuya Kuchiki (Bleach) |
Takenami | Kentarō Kumagai | Rajak Kertia (Noblesse) |
Astaroth | Yū Kobayashi | Sasha Braus (Attack on Titan) |
Maurie | Chitose Morinaga | Umiko Ahagon (New Game!) |
Hariett | Karin Oda | Daisuke Mizushima (Miyakawa-ke no Kūfuku) |
Such a great and varied cast only suggests that the anime will be nothing less than epic.
While the story follows Wisteria and Malbus’ journey towards a peaceful haven, it also involves some darker aspects. War, suffering, and contracts with demons are just scraping off the surface of what lies beneath this tale.
Considering the dark fantasy it is, being set in the late 19th century doesn’t seem very surprising as that time was nothing less than hell on Earth. Along with people’s suffering, that era was filled with various evils that the characters experienced in their path.

I’m excited to see how the story escalates since it has so many exciting elements and characters incorporated into it.
Although the story might seem complicated with so many things, I assure you that it is written to provide an engaging and wholesome experience.
