A new spinoff is ready to show you the potential of Yuya Oboro, a Ryusen Gakuen student.

According to Akita Shoten, a new spin-off series titled “Harigane Service Gaiden – Hydra Break” by mangaka Ara Tatsuya will start its publication in the upcoming Monthly Shonen Champion issue 9/2021 out tomorrow (6th August 2021).

A new promo visual was also released for the upcoming manga.

The visual features a new protagonist named Oboro, who is maniacally staring at a volleyball with weird cryptic numbers in the backdrop. Interestingly, his hunched back and messy hair also reminds me of a certain popular sweet-eating maniac from a thrilling series.

The cover describes the upcoming series as:

The stage is Ryusen Gakuen immediately after losing to Toyose High School in the old qualifying! A story in which a monster, Oboro, and director Nanryuu challenge a hero!

From the hints, we can assume that the spin-off will directly pick off after the original series.

Rather than following the winners of the original manga, we will see the losing team making a comeback. The plot is a great twist and is sure to flesh out the characters, especially the antagonists.

Harigane Service Gaiden is sure to take us on an entirely new plot with its focus on the antagonist of the main series. The series itself might be the next hidden gem of the sports manga.

So be sure to grab a copy of the upcoming spinoff!

About Harigane Service

Harigane Service is a Japanese manga by Ara Tatsuya in 2014. It has 24 published volumes serialized in Shounen Champion.

Kanna Shimodaira enrolls in Toritsu Toyose High School and immediately joins their volleyball club. During club introductions, he announces his position as a pinch server.

Taken aback by this unorthodox declaration, other members introduce themselves: wing spiker Jouji Mashira, setter Ibuki Matsukata, and libero Susumu Kaneda.

Alongside talented teammates, Kanna will need to work incredibly hard to achieve his goal of becoming a starter—unless he has a hidden skill.
