Vikings S6 Heading to Amazon Prime Before History
The second part of Vikings’ sixth and final season is landing soon. The sixth season premiered on the History channel late last year and aired ten episodes before going on a hiatus. Now Amazon has revealed that Prime members can get to know how the series ends before the rest of the world- the remaining ten episodes will be released on Prime Video before its premiere on the cable network. History will air the episodes sometime in 2021; an official date has not been set yet.
Vikings debuted in 2013 to massive popularity and critical acclaim. The series revolves around the heroic adventures of the Norse warriors of Scandinavia, especially the Viking chieftain Ragnar Lothbrok, his family, clan and descendants. The series is partially based on the epic sagas, The Tale of Ragnar Lothbrok, The Tale of Ragnar’s Sons and Danish author Saxo Grammaticus’s Gesta Danorum.
The second half will pick up after the battle of the Rus army and the Vikings, where Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) and King Harald (Peter Franzen) had teamed up against Ivar the Boneless (Alex Hogh Andersen) for the control of Norway. Viewers were left shocked when the battle ended with Bjorn being stabbed through the side and apparently dead.
As if that is not enough, series creator Michael Hirst mentioned that there are more surprises on the way and some of them might be tragic- “And if you have tears to shed, then also be prepared to shed them.”
In the final run, Ubbe is desperate to fulfil his father Ragnar’s dream to sail west, farther than any Viking has sailed before. Meanwhile, there is trouble brewing in England, where the Vikings have taken control but Wessex remains independent. The King of Wessex, Alfred the Great, has challenged the Viking domination. Ivar must face the king, whom he only knew as a boy, in a battle that will bring about grave consequences.
The final episodes of Vikings will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video on December 30th, 2020.
