Things have been getting more and more tense and painful, and we don’t think that will change in Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 21, where Throfinn is going to meet the King directly.
In the last episode, we saw that the chaos caused by King Canute’s soldiers scared even the farm protesters. The villagers were running for their lives, and almost everyone fighting on Ketil’s side was also doing the same. Thorgill was able to surprise the King, but the King isn’t just a king because of his name.
Canute defended himself with a sword, and by the time others arrived to help him, Thorgill had already been driven away. Unfortunately for Arnheid, it was too late by the time Einar, Leif, and Thorfinn left the farm with her and she passed away on the cart. Thorfinn finally left to visit King Canute at the end of the episode.

Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 20: Summary
We saw in the previous episode that the guards at Ketil’s farm were terrified of the Jomvikings. The Vikings were giving even the trained fighters a tough time and showing no signs of leaving.
The farmers were slaughtered on the battlefield the moment the fighting began. Some people were beheaded, while others had no idea they were being sent to their deaths. Ketil was similarly delusional in his belief that he could defeat King Canute, but the conflict was swiftly resolved.
Snake’s men were similarly useless in this fight, and they eventually withdrew to safety. Ketil, whose two sons had vanished without a trace, was also attacked but sustained only minor wounds and was therefore unrecognizably able to survive. Snake eventually found him and spirited him away to safety.

However, when Einar, Thorfinn, and the others finally left the farm with Arnheid, tragedy was already at their doorstep. Arnheid regained consciousness long enough to say her final goodbyes and then passed out again.
After this, Einar was very angry, but he knew it wasn’t the time to take any kind of action. Thorgill’s surprise attack on King was deft, but King is no slouch, either. Canute tried to defend himself at the last second with a sword, but Thorgill’s strength was enough to break the blade.
Thorgill then gave the other soldiers a hard time as well, but when he realized he was on the verge of victory, he fled to the water. The death of Arnheid devastated the kingdom, and after her burial Thorfinn deliberated for some time before deciding to personally inform King Canute of the tragedy.
