Hey, belated Merry Christmas to any who celebrate it. I hope everyone is having a healthy holiday season. As for myself, I came down with a horrible stomach virus on the 24th. I’ll spare the details, but it will take a few days to recover. That also means I’m several days behind with my blog. Sorry about that.
While I can sit up and write a little, I’d like to update you all on what I will most likely be watching in the upcoming Winter 2025 season. I’ll also be working on the episode reviews for the ones I haven’t finished yet from Fall 2024, such as RekiAku. Anyways, here’s my current lineup.
1) Blue Exorcist: Blue Night Saga
Begins: January 5th
Note: Available on Crunchyroll

This exciting new season of Blue Exorcist continues where Beyond the Snow Saga left off. Much of it will focus on the life stories of Shiro, the man who raised Rin and Yukio, and the woman who would become their mother, Yuri Egan. I’m actually really excited!
2) Solo Leveling Season 2
Begins: January 5th
Note: Available on Crunchyroll

This trailer made me laugh, especially the part where Cha Hae-In monologues about how Sung is the only hunter who smells good. This series is hilariously dumb sometimes with its sheer level of wish fulfillment fantasy. There’s no depth. But I’m going to watch season 2 anyway – because it looks and sounds so pretty. I just wish there was a halfway interesting story to back up the amazingly cool animation and music.
3) Tasokare Hotel
Begins: January 8th
Note: Not Yet on Crunchyroll as of Jan 6th

Everything about this looks interesting to me, as someone who loves similar productions like Death Parade, Angel Beats, and Shigofumi (Letters from the Dead). Who doesn’t love a good show exploring the idea of an afterlife – or one than explores a person’s understanding of their own identity as they are dying? This kind of content might make me cry, but it’s usually worth it for the rich emotional experiences. Also, the characters look very cute.
4) Dr Stone: Science Future
Begins: January 9th
Note: Available on Crunchyroll

The good news: More Dr. Stone, one of my top five favorite classic shounen anime series. The bad news: It’s the first cour of the final season. In other words, these 11-13 episodes are the beginning of the end. I was honestly expecting this show to go on for longer, but I’ll take what I can get, I guess. I’m definitely excited for the two new antagonists, both of whom are fabulously attractive in the odd, flamboyant style of Dr. Stone.
5) The Apothecary Diaries Season 2
Begins: January 10th
Note: Available on Crunchyroll

The first season was pretty much a masterpiece by itself, but it definitely needed more story and character expansion. Apothecary Diaries Season 2 is probably the anime I’m most excited for in Winter 2025. I absolutely adore Maomao, the witty and neurodivegent protagonist.
6) I May Be a Guild Receptionist, but I’ll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time
Begins: January 11th
Note: Available on Crunchyroll

This anime has a hilarious concept that reminds me a bit of Aggretsuko. Also, the art-style is appealing and the main character has an extremely cute design. She is also being voiced by Rie Takahashi, a voice actress I’m keenly interested in hearing. Anyway, this show looks like it will be fun. It might even have some social commentary about women who work full-time in office jobs.
7) Sakomoto Days
Begins: January 11th
Note: Available on Netflix

Parts of this look not ideal – there’s probably going to be a lot of jokes at the expense of overweight people. So, I’m not sure if I’ll like it. But the concept is so hilarious that I want to give it a try. In addition, I am very familiar with most of the voice cast, and I would love to hear them again.
