Will Black Summoner Get a Second Season? Latest Updates and News
If Studio Satelight approves season 2 of the Black Summoner anime adaptation, there is sufficient source material to cover.
Another day, another set of anime series concludes, as we bid farewell to Aoashi, Teppen, Engage Kiss, Lycoris Recoil, and Black Summoner.
The last series, Black Summoner, has mostly gone unnoticed on the 2022 Summer lineup, with Overlord and Uncle From Another World probably being the ideal Isekai options this time.
However, a strong group of followers still have remained with Black Summoner throughout its first season and are excited about what the future holds. Ahead of the release of episode 12, Black Summoner has not yet been formally renewed for season 2, but what are the possibilities that the anime will continue?
Black Summoner Season 2 Renewal Status
As previously stated, Studio Satelight has yet to formally renew Black Summoner for a second season. However, what is the possibility that the anime will return for a second adventure before the series finale?
The good news is that following the airing of episode 12, there should be enough source material left to make another anime season of Black Summoner. According to reports, the series’s first season should go on until the end of light book volume 3.
In Japan, 17 complete Tankobon volumes had been released as of September 2022, suggesting that there is enough source material for six entire 12-episode anime seasons.
With only over 20,000 reviews, the series has struggled to gain meaningful traction during the 2022 Summer slate, currently scoring a 7.4/10 on IMDB, 3.8/5 on Anime-Planet, 70% on Anilist, and 7.12/10 on MyAnimeList.
While these scores are not fatal, they are undoubtedly dismal when considering the Black Summoner series’ renewal status. According to AnimeGeek, “the determining element is international streaming income, which could just be good enough.”
Still, it’s “uncertain if the anime production committee will have Black Summoner renewed for a second season.”
Because Studio Satelight, the studio behind Black Summoner, currently has no publicly announced projects for 2023, their schedule is potentially accessible for producing season 2 next year.
Fingers crossed that the national success in Japan is strong enough to offset the slightly above-average overseas reviews.
While there have been 17 light novel volumes released in Japan, only ten are now accessible in English – which is available through Kobo. There is also a manga adaption with 7 English volumes available on Kobo.
