Masamune Kido, the sleek commander-in-chief of Border, had already made his dislike for neighbors clear. Well, yes, they attack Earth whenever they want, but there are some helpful neighbors too. Then why is Kido so against them?

The latest episode unveils a bit more of Kido as well as Border’s past.

Yuri Rindo recounts that the purpose of the “old Border” was to connect their world to the neighbors. All that changed when five years earlier, Border was in a battle with a neighbor that was attacking an allied nation. The world would have been in danger if the aggressor wasn’t stopped.

Border emerged as a victor but not without huge losses. 10 out of 19 Border members who were dispatched died. Some of them even became black triggers.

Since then, Kido’s attitude completely changed, and he adopted a grim outlook. Kido claims all neighbors as enemies to assemble people at Border, and much of Border’s success is due to him.

The trauma of losing his colleagues must have made him tougher as he wants to prevent the same tragedy from happening twice. The incident impacted him so much that his past image stands in stark contrast to the present Kido.

Nevertheless, after Kido changed, he developed his own faction and separated himself from Tamakoma’s original intention.

The Kido from the old picture also didn’t have a scar on his face. We can assume that he had received the scar sometime during the huge battle.

Even after his apparent hate for neighbors, Kido let Hyuse and Yuma join Border. Why is the soft-hearted to these recruits? It looks like his aim to strengthen the Border stands above his hatred against neighbors.

Yuri has now exposed commander Kido’s tsundere personality. I hope to get more glimpses of how the past battle affects his decisions later in the season.

About World Trigger

World Trigger, also known in short form as WorTri, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Daisuke Ashihara. It was initially serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from February 2013 to November 2018 and later transferred to Jump Square in December 2018.

A mysterious white-haired kid named Yūma Kuga gets transferred to the local school. Turns out, Kuga is actually a humanoid or ‘neighbor.’ In school, he becomes friends with another student, Osamu Mikumo, who is, in fact, an undercover C-class Border trainee. Mikumo becomes the perfect guide for Kuga to save him from being discovered by Border.
