Although their fight didn’t see a conclusion in chapter 141, we fans were shocked to see a familiar face return to the series.

I am talking about Rika-chan, the cursed spirit accompanying Yuta. I can say that we fans almost predicted her return when Yuta mentioned her name in chapter 137, so she was bound to show up at some point.

But, I am sure some of you are still wrapping your heads around what’s Yuta and Rika’s connection and would like to know more about their existence.

Their connection was mentioned in Jujutsu Kaisen’s prequel “Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Jujutsu High” centering around Okkotsu Yuta.

1. Who is Okkotsu Yuta?

Okkotsu Yuta is a second year student studying in Tokyo Jujutsu High. He was a Special Grade Cursed Human before Satoro Gojo enrolled him in the school and taught him the art of being a Jujutsu Sorcerer.

After the Shibuya Incident, Yuta got assigned the job of executing Itadori Yuuji. His Special Grade Curse was due to him being haunted by the spirit of his childhood friend Rika, who he later summoned to use her special grade cursed powers.

2. Who is Rika?

Rika Orimoto is the childhood friend of Okkotsu Yuta, as we know from the Jujutsu Kaisen prequel. After her tragic death by a car accident, her cursed spirit had transformed into a Special Grade Vengeful Cursed Spirit.

Her affection towards Yuta made her cursed spirit form attached to him. Yuta suffered from Rika’s curse throughout his life and hardly made friends. However, when Yuta joined the Tokyo Jujutsu High, he finally found a way to break Rika’s curse.

Yuta was able to cleanse Rika’s spirit and set her free. Rika forgave Yuta, who had blamed himself for her death.

Chapter 141 saw Rika-chan’s powerful return where she held onto Yuuji while Yuta drove his sword through his stomach.

3. How Powerful Are They?

Okkotsu Yuta being a special grade sorcerer is quite the powerful force to be dealt with.

Not only did he gain the innate ability to control cursed spirits but after being back from his overseas training, he has control over his skills like never before.

In chapter 140, Yuuji detected that he had overflowing cursed power almost as similar as Gojo-sensei if not more. Now, with his new and improved powers and excellent Katana skills, he is able to summon cursed spirits at will.

Whereas, Rika-chan is also considered one of the most powerful cursed spirits to ever exist. Her curse is compared to Sukuna and she is dubbed as the “Queen of Curses.”

But the return of our powerful Rika-chan also brings various questions to mind and fans now doubt the new Rika’s existence.

4. Has Rika-chan Truly Returned?

According to the Jujutsu Kaisen prequel, Rika-chan had been already released of her curse and her spirit was given freedom by Yuta.

But, with the appearance of a slightly different looking Rika-chan in chapter 141 the fans doubted that Rika’s existence.

Some fans speculate that the Rika-chan shown in the chapter is just another cursed spirit bound by Yuta which has no connection with the former Rika. Yuta being unable to forget Rika might have given the same name to the new cursed spirit.

Whatever the truth might be, the new chapters might slowly reveal the truth and answer some of our burning questions like: Why Sukuna woke up and smiled while Yuuji was stabbed by Yuta’s Katana?

Till then we just have wait patiently for the next chapter.
