Manga Volume Prices by Viz Media to Increase in January 2024
Viz Media has been at the forefront of the manga publishing industry for quite some time. Sales are at an all-time high due to the media’s increasing popularity in recent years across North America and other countries.
Listings for 2024 show that for the first time in over fifteen years, Viz plans to increase the price of their manga volumes. Even if Viz hasn’t come out and said it, all signs point to yes.
According to ICv2, in January of 2024, Viz Media will begin charging US$11.99 for each manga volume, up from the current price of US$9.99. Every subsequent volume in an ongoing series, as well as every subsequent volume in a brand-new series, will cost more.
The increased pricing for upcoming volumes of popular Shonen Jump titles like My Hero Academia and others can be seen on the Amazon and Barnes & Noble websites.
For comparison’s sake, MHA Volume 36 is now priced at $9.99 for a December 2023 release, while Volume 37 is $11.99 for a March 2024 release.
When compared to other publishing businesses like Kodansha and Yen Press, for example, Viz Media’s new prices are still more affordable.
ICv2 reports that Viz Media has said nothing about the price rise for manga, therefore the reasoning behind the move is unknown.
