Crunchyroll expands Kirakira Precure a la Mode Anime’s Territories
On Monday, Crunchyroll announced that it has begun streaming the Kirakira ☆ Precure a la Mode anime series in North America, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Toei Animation Inc. licensed the series outside Japan.
The company began streaming the anime in Europe and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region on Thursday.
The show’s theme is a crossover of colorful sweets with cool and cute animals. The main characters run a sweet shop and must face off against evil fairies to protect their beloved confections.
Kirakira Precure a la Mode is a 2017 Japanese magical girl anime series produced by Toei Animation and the fourteenth instalment in Izumi Todo’s Pretty Cure metaseries, featuring the twelfth generation of Cures. Kohei Kureta and Yukio Kaizawa directed them.
The series began airing on all All-Nippon News Network stations in Japan on February 5, 2017, succeeding Witchy PreCure! in its initial timeslot. It was then succeeded by Hugtto.
The series’ main topic is happiness, while desserts and animals serve as the motif.
Yuri Komagata (Mangirl!) performed the anime’s opening theme song “SHINE!! Kirakira ☆ Precure a la Mode,” and Kanako Miyamoto (Yes! Precure 5) performed the ending theme song “Let’s La Cooking ☆ Showtime.”
The anime even inspired an anime film titled Eiga Kirakira ☆ Precure a la Mode: Paris to! Omoide no Mille-Feuille! and it was released in Japan in October 2017.
The film ranked #1 in tickets sold at the Japanese box office in its opening weekend when it sold 170,659 tickets on 217 screens to earn 193,101,900 yen (about US$1.7 million).
About Kirakira Precure a la Mode
Ichika Usami is a second-year middle school student who loves sweets and wishes to work in a patisserie, but struggles to make anything right.
One day, she encounters a fairy named Pekorin, who can detect “kirakiral,” an element residing in sweets representing the feelings put into them.
However, evil fairies start to steal the kirakiral for themselves, leaving the sweets black and lifeless.
Determined to protect the sweets, Ichika gains the Legendary Patisserie power and transforms into the Pretty Cure, Cure Whip, to protect the kirakiral.
Joined by five other Pretty Cures, Ichika opens up the mobile sweet shop, Kirakira Patisserie, and spends her days making sweets while fighting against those who seek to steal kirakiral and bring misfortune to the world.
