Demon Slayer-Kimetsu no Yaiba-The Movie: Mugen Train follows the story of Tanjiro who investigates the murders of passengers by a possible demon in a moving train. The movie has generated a huge amount just after its first screening.
The movie Mugen Train was released on October 16th and gathered a huge audience. The movie is said to have grossed over US$30 Million in the first three days of screening in Japan.
Although the numbers might not be the final calculated amount, it is calculated that the first day of screening alone gathered over US$9.48 Million (1 Billion yen).
The rise in ticket sales can be due to the fact that the first week of the movie screening was allowed to seat a full house. You can read more about it in our news article here.
If we compare the Mugen Train movie with Makoto Shinkai’s creations like “Your Name” and “Weathering with You”, the movie “Your Name” had grossed about US$12.51 Million in the first three days in the year 2016.
Whereas, “Weathering with You” collected US$15.22 Million in 2019. Frozen 2 earned US$18.2 Million in the first week of release in Japan.
The film was screened in 403 theatres throughout Japan, and some IMAX theatres have even reported that they screened the movie as much as 40 times each day of screening.
The screening will continue in full force throughout the first week of release and the audience will also receive a limited edition of “Rengoku Volume 0” manga in a first come first serve basis up to 4.5 million copies.
If the popularity of the film continues throughout the rest of the screening days, the movie might just be one of the highest grossing anime movies of all time.
