Do Goku and Vegeta play a vital role in the DBS: Super Hero Film?

Goku and Vegeta have always been a central part of the Dragon Ball universe, so it’s only natural for them to play a key role in every installment. However, that wasn’t the case for Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

This led me to wonder if Goku and Vegeta played an important role in this film or not?

Toriyama delivered a story unlike any other from the franchise, and its most surprising part was Goku and Vegeta not saving the day in the end. Rather, Gohan’s daughter Pan played a more crucial role than these two.

In all honesty, the film is mostly a trip down memory lane to the classic Dragon Ball and DBZ days. The only difference is that Gohan and the others had to deal with the consequences of Goku’s actions during that time.

When Goku was a child, he put down the Red Ribbon Army, making him a sworn enemy of their coming generations. The Saiyan’s past with the Red Ribbon Army caught up to him on many occasions as they were behind the Androids and Cell.

Out of these, Cell Games was a defining arc in the franchise as it was the first time we saw Gohan’s true potential as being stronger than Goku. Since the Red Ribbon Army’s Dr. Gero was behind Cell’s creation, it’s obvious that the movie brought him back as a surprise character.

Instead of coming back as the classic Cell, Gero’s grandkid Dr. Hedo modified him to an advanced version called ‘Cell Max.’ If this sounds like bad news, then you won’t be happy to know that even after this, Goku and Vegeta were nowhere to be seen on Earth.

Due to a silly mistake, the Saiyans training on Beerus’ planet with Broly couldn’t get Bulma’s message for help. So, Gohan, Piccolo, and the others had to step up.

Now, as seen in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F,’ Gohan is not the same guy who once overwhelmed Cell. Instead of easily defeating Frieza, Gohan got beat up to the point of death and was saved by the timely arrival of Goku and Vegeta.

However, DBS: Super Hero is nothing like that. In this movie, the focus is all on Gohan dealing with his and Goku’s past. He goes a step ahead in this one and unlocks a new form unique to him in order to defeat Cell Max. Also, this time, he doesn’t make the mistake of being arrogant again and destroys Cell at once.

All this while, when the Dragon Gang was busy defending Earth, Goku and Vegeta were sparring on Beerus’ planet without a care. The pair didn’t know what was happening and didn’t care much either.

Moreover, Gohan even mentions to Piccolo that Goku and Vegeta wouldn’t have been able to defeat Cell Max anyway.

So, in my opinion, Goku and Vegeta weren’t central to the movie’s plot, as the entire focus was on Gohan finding his lost power again.
