‘Dororo’ Inspires Webtoon Remake Set in the Modern Era; Sneak Peeks Out

Korean manhwa, also called, webtoons, have indulged fans for years and are especially known for their eye-catching artworks. While some webtoons like Solo Leveling have become legends, others like Tower of God and The God of High School have even inspired anime.

It was high time that a manga received a webtoon that could embellish it even more. Which other series can be the most worthy, if not Dororo by the “father of manga,” Osamu Tezuka?

Osamu Tezuka’s classic manga about a samurai with 48 missing body parts is inspiring a webtoon adaptation. It will be serialized simultaneously in Japan and South Korea in December 2022.

Media Do, Tezuka Production, and Copic Communications are helming this project and have also unveiled plans for the webcomic’s global release after the serialization concludes in Korea.

The original 1967 Dororo manga is based in feudal Japan, but the new adaptation will see an immortal Hyakkimaru in the modern era. While our hero only had to defeat dead spirits in the actual series, now he has to face humans as well who have colluded with evil.

On his journey, Hakki will also encounter Roro, who will remind him of Dororo, the mischievous thief-boy who was his companion in the past.

The 1967 Dororo manga had a total of 19 chapters, and the upcoming webtoon adaptation has 10-15 chapters planned at the moment. The chapters will be released weekly.

Currently, another remake of the manga “The Legend of Dororo and Hyakkimaru” by Satoshi Shiki is also being published.

Osamu Tezuka’s immortal works can birth sparks in people’s minds no matter the generation, and Dororo is a prime example of that. So, wait patiently for this upcoming revolutionary webtoon that might just sweep you off your feet.

About Dororo

Dororo is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by the manga artist Osamu Tezuka in the late 1960s. An anime television series based on the manga consists of 26 half-hour episodes that aired in 1969. A 24-episode second anime television series adaptation by MAPPA and Tezuka Productions aired from January to June 2019.

The plot revolves around a young girl named Dororo, who runs a business by helping poor people in the empire itself. She wanders the streets of a few stalls in search of money.

Hyakkimaru is a young boy who was born without any limbs or organs. He was born from a royal family but was snatched away from his mother because he had no limbs. Hyakkimaru accidentally stumbles upon Dororo who was being hit by a group of shop owners, that’s where it all started.
