Kadokawa Aims for Anime Domination with New 3DCG And VFX Studio Kadan
Kadokawa is a well-known name in the anime industry and the media conglomerate has recently taken steps towards strengthening its production houses.
Just a few months back, Kadokawa acquired J-Novel Club, a US-based publishing company.
After strengthening its hold on the publishing market and promising to release 40 new anime titles per year, Kadokawa is going on a shopping spree and setting up new firms to keep its promise to the fans.
Recently, Kadokawa announced that it had established a new 3DCG and visual effects anime studio named Studio Kadan with a capital of 100 million yen.
The firm’s president is producer Takeshi Kikuchi, while the vice president is anime director Hiroyuki Seshita.

Hiroyuki Seshita is one of Japan’s leading 3DCG animation directors. Studio Kaden is sure to use his prior experience working with 3DCG; he was the director of 3D anime such as Knights of Sidonia, Ajin, and Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters.
Kadokawa Promises an Increase in Production with 40 Anime Titles Per Year!
Studio Kadan has stated that it can carry out full 3DCG cell-look CG animation, XR using 3D modeling, projection mapping, and video game-compatible images. The studio is also capable of VFX production in live-action films.
Even though Japan is known for quality video games and animations, the anime industry still relies on hand-drawn animation. With the bad reputation around CG animations, many studios don’t use it.
However, over the recent years, Studio Ufotable has brought CG animation to the limelight with the Fate series and Demon slayer.
With the new Studio Kadan, will Kadokawa pull a ufotable or an Ex-arm? With a promise of 40 anime titles per year, it will be interesting to see how 3DCG will play into the grand scheme of things.
