The visual features the deuteragonist of the series Fukamachi, an avid photographer, and Habu Joji, a legendary mountaineer.
As both men climb up the steep cliff, they are depicted in chilling details, with even their breath turning to frost in the cold temperatures of the Himalayas. Set against the backdrop of snow-white peaks, the visual hauntingly conveys the danger looming below both.
The film has been met with considerable praise and acclaim; interestingly, The Summit of the Gods was also screened earlier this month at Cannes Film Festival as part of the official selection.
The film was unveiled in 2015, with Patrick Imbert (Ernest & Celestine) as the director; he also wrote the script collaborating with Magali Pouzol and Jean-Charles Ostorero. The music for the series was composed by Amine Bouhafa.
The animation art in the film is quite groundbreaking, with a beautiful blend of 2D hand-drawn style and 3D graphics mixed with photorealistic backgrounds.
In addition, Mr. Imbert has commented that the work of late mangaka Jiro Taniguchi has been faithfully adapted in the film with detailed handwork that looks like pages of the original manga!
In just two months, this mountaineering adventure will hit the French theatres! Packed in with the serene beauty of nature, The Summit of Gods will be a must-match for any fan of animation.
