PC and PS5 crossplay coming soon to Baldur’s Gate 3 developers confirm

Baldur’s Gate 3 developers Larian Studios released the PlayStation 5 version of the title on September 6th. Things are looking good for Larian, as they have confirmed that the Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 is also releasing soon.

Larian Studios’ Director of Publishing, Michael Douse, confirmed in an interview with media outlet Eurogamer that the developers are working on making the crossplay feature between PS5 and PC available as soon as possible.

He said that internally, despite the feature having been in the pipeline for a while, they knew it was impossible to make it available at launch on September 6th.

Michael confirmed that it is a significant landmark in their roadmap and that they are working hard to unify the gamers on both platforms.

He clarified that they have a fair idea of when Baldur’s Gate 3’s crossplay will be available. However, the studio is cautious to not commit to a date until they are sure of it.

The PlayStation 5 version of Baldur’s Gate 3 launched with online multiplayer and split-screen local co-op support. The cross-saves also are a great feature.

However, players are not a great fan of the split-screen feature on the PlayStation 5. The rendering quality is limited to 30 FPS of Quality Visual mode.

This makes the game visually choppier than the 60FPS. Another problem that was addressed by Larian ahead of the launch is the performance issues in the game’s climatic final act in the city of Baldur’s Gate.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has also achieved the remarkable feat of being the highest-rated game on PlayStation 5 of all time, with a score of 97. The near-perfect scores for the PlayStation 5 version made this feat possible.

As confirmed by Swen Vincke, players are also looking forward to the release of the Xbox versions. This means that the Xbox Series S will be released without the split-screen co-op feature that will be present in the more powerful Xbox Series X.

The developers are working hard to ensure the best possible post-launch roadmap for a game that has been in beta for nearly three years. The latest hotfix by Larian Studios patches up a few buggy things in the game, making the fans happy to see such a rapid response from the devs.
